The 88 Numberwing can be found in tropical rainforests in Peru, as well as regions of Colombia to Bolivia. This is a solitary species that are attracted most to moist surfaces in the rainforest. Undersides are its most attractive, intricately patterned hindwings and red-banded hindwings, Topsides are black winged with red and blue-bands atop velvet black wings.
